Vernon Ah Kee, Aleks Danko, Raquel Ormella and Gemma Smith are exhibiting new work as part of Contemporary Australia: Optimism at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. The work of Eugene Carchesio is currently the subject of a major survey exhibition at the Queensland Art Gallery opening later this month. A major new publication on the art of Rosslynd Piggott has just been released. Published by the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Extract: In 3 parts follows on from Piggott’s solo exhibition there earlier this year, and features essays by Rebecca Coates and Robyn Williams.

Raquel Ormella is exhibiting work in Better Places at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts over summer. Curated by Melissa Keys, Better Places seeks to explore ‘the space between the world we live in, and the world we wish for’. Works by John Citizen feature as part of Home, currently at the Lismore Regional Gallery. Gordon Hookey is a finalist in the inaugural Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards. Hookey is one of 16 finalists selected from 157 nominated artists for this new $50 000 annual prize.
